Answering that awkward salary question.

Answering that awkward salary question.

The salary isn't stated but the job advert says "excellent package".

So what do you say when the interviewer says, "What salary are you looking for?"

Do not give a flat figure!

Your best answer, provided it's true, is to say, "At ABC Ltd my total package is (or was) £x and I'm obviously keen to improve on that, but I'm very open to negotiation for the right opportunity."

Remember you are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you.
